WA Talent Shines at 2025 Yonex U15 & U19 Nationals in Tasmania
Western Australia has once again proven it belongs at the top tier of national badminton, delivering a powerful performance at the 2025 Yonex U15 & U19 Australian National Team and Individual Championships, held in Launceston, Tasmania from July 14–20.
🏆 Team Triumphs in Tassie
In a week full of thrilling rallies and fierce competition, our WA State Teams walked away with two national podium finishes:
-
U15s – Silver 🥈
-
U19s – Bronze 🥉
Both squads displayed exceptional grit and unity, with each match played with heart and pride. Although Victoria claimed top honours in both age groups, WA’s performance was a statement of intent for the future.
“It’s great to see our top players from Western Australia not only match it with the other states, but in some instances, be the best in the country,” said Daniel Fan, Badminton WA Board Member and Performance Portfolio Lead. “It’s important that we not only celebrate the new national champions, but also congratulate the whole squad. Our players continue to push each other to be better, and we saw that in the depth of results all week. Finishing 2nd and 3rd in the team events is a strong result, but we know there’s more work to do if we want to consistently beat teams like Victoria.”
🌟 Individual Brilliance on Display
WA’s emerging stars weren’t done yet, with standout performances in the Individual Championships:
-
🥇 Mimi Ngo – Women’s U19 Doubles Champion
-
🥇 Angela Shen – U15 Mixed Doubles Champion
-
🥉 Seryna Xiao – Women’s U19 Doubles Third Place
These results highlight the growing strength of WA’s junior development system and the high calibre of talent emerging from the west.
“Thank you to the team coaches, managers and parents who all travelled over and worked so hard to make this the best possible experience for the players,” said Rob Kennedy, Executive Officer at Badminton WA. “Also to the players’ private coaches and academies – well done on all the development that’s led to these results. At Badminton WA, we aim to bring our performance players together to achieve national success, but it’s your ongoing commitment in the background that deserves real credit. Let’s go WA!”
From start to finish, the 2025 Nationals showcased the talent, teamwork and tenacity that define badminton in Western Australia. With silver, bronze and two national champions in the bag, the future is looking bright. 💛🖤
