Celebrating WA Officials at the LiveLighter WA State Open Junior Championships and Beyond
Badminton WA is proud to acknowledge the dedication and achievements of our technical officials during the 2025 LiveLighter WA State Open Junior Championships, held on 22–23 March at Kingsway Indoor Stadium.
During the event, two officials were formally recognised with national-level certifications, presented on behalf of Badminton Australia:
Nicholas Chin received his National Line Judge Certificate, adding to his existing National Accredited Umpire status, held since 2023. His certificate was presented by Jane Wheatley, Badminton WA Life Member and BWF Referee Assessor.
Li Zeng was awarded his National Accredited Umpire Certificate, following his successful practical assessment at a Badminton WA tournament in February 2025. His certificate was presented by Christine Ferguson, President of Badminton WA.
President Christine Ferguson congratulated both officials, stating:
“Our sport simply wouldn’t function without passionate and qualified officials. They uphold the integrity of our game and support the development of players at every level. We are extremely proud of Nicholas and Li for their ongoing commitment to officiating, and we look forward to seeing them thrive both here in WA and on national and international courts.”
In addition to these achievements, Western Australian umpires Nicholas Chin and Kasuni Lakmana Arachchi are currently representing the state at the 2025 Yonex Australian National Championships in Hobart, Tasmania. We commend them for their continued service to the sport and for flying the WA flag on the national stage.
Badminton WA extends our best wishes to all our officials and encourages anyone interested in getting involved in officiating to reach out.
