The Under15 WA Team are back from the Val Nesbitt Trophy & U15 Nationals in Queensland (2nd-7th October). They made History by winning Silver for the very first time for the WA U15s Team! They lost out to a strong NSW team after fighting hard all the way. They were succesful in the individuals too, with Tyzton Tan winning Mixed Doubles (with Joy Lai from VIC) and coming runner up in the Mens Doubles with fellow WA player Yin Xiang Lin. Yin Xiang Lin partnered up with WA's Alexandra Phan to claim the Mixed Double Plate. Congratulations to the whole Team! |

WA U15s made history by winning a team medal for the first time! They made it through to the medal play-offs and fought very hard but had to settle for Bronze, with NSW Thunder claiming Silver and Victoria 1 winning Gold. In the Individuals, WA came away with 2 Silvers and 1 Plate on the final days play - Amos Yi was narrowly beaten in 2 very tight games in the Boys Singles, Phing Teo & Eunice Lee also tried their best but also lost out in 2 sets in the Girls Doubles but Dennis Zhao won the Mens Plate in 3 sets. Kingsway Indoor Stadium hosted junior teams from around Australia participating in the Val Nesbitt Trophy & Under 15 Championships, which ran in conjunction with the Regional Teams event, from 2-8th October. |

2011 Junior Pennants kicked off on Saturday 13th August and finished on Saturday 3rd September. The matches were played at Karrinyup Sports Centre in Karrinyup between 2-4pm on Saturday afternoons over 4 weeks. Teams were made up from registered male and female players to play round robin games over 3 weeks. Followed by a final placings play-off in Week 4 to decide the winners of this Semester Series. With Medals and various prizes on offer for teams and individuals. Congratulations to the Hawks who won the series: Cavan Yau, Scott Delamotte, Daniel Tie & Alvin Khuu. SENIOR STATE TEAM RETURN FROM TASMANIA

The WA State Senior Team travelled to Burnie, Tasmania to take part in the State Nationals from 20-27th August. The team were unlucky with various injuries but they still battled hard with some very close tussles. Narrowly losing against NSW (1st) & VIC (2nd) by 7-6 scorelines and eventually came 4th. Newspaper Article - Individs Finals Day In the Individuals we scooped 3 of the 5 titles. Nick Kidd beat Himanshu Thacker in an all WA final to retain his Singles title. Nick also won the Mixed (with SA partner Talia Saunders). In the match of the tournament Hii Wee Ung & Chris Ong became Mens Doubles Champs fighting back to win 21-19 in the 3rd in a very high quality match. WA players also featured strongly in the Plate competition with Beth Hollett winning the Women's Singles. WA players also came Runner's-up in the Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles. WA Junior Eddie Hung capped a memorable week at the U19s State Nationals helping the team win Team Bronze, claiming 3 titles in the Individuals, earning the Best & Fairest Trophy as well as being selected to represent Australia at the Youth Commonwealth Games to be held in Isle Of Man in Sept 2011. Eddie followed in the footsteps of Australian Men's Champion (Nick Kidd, WA) to take 3 titles at the Under19s. He paired up with Tara Pilven (Vic) to win the Mixed, then followed that by claiming the Men's Singles title. He showed his fight by teaming up with WA's Bryan Tang (who was attempting to defend his title) in the Doubles to come from behind to win the title in the deciding 3rd game 21-19! Congratulations to Eddie and Bryan!!! |

The WA Under 19s came back from Sydney having earnt Bronze. The team had some tough encounters where the strength in depth was tested but the team spirit & support helped them to achieve an excellent 3rd place finish after beating Mainland New Zealand 9-7 in the play-off final. The winning team "U-19 State Team" were crowned Champions after going through undefeated and won $1000 cash prize!!! |

WA's Nick Kidd represented Australia in the 2011 BWF Sudirman Cup World Mixed Team Championships, held in Qingdao, China from 22-29 May. Australia finished the group stage with wins against Czech Republic, Slovakia and Peru. They held match points to win the tie against Sweden as well but unfortunately went down 3-2. In the PAN Pacific Teams Championship, he helped Australia1 to win the trophy after beating teams from Singapore, New Zealand and Australia2. In the Australian Junior International, he reached the semi-finals of the Boys Doubles, losing to the eventual champions from Singapore, and in the Mixed & Singles he reached the quarter-finals. |

Northern New Zealand 1 won the June Bevan Trophy. WA State U17 Team came a creditable 9th out of 18 teams. In the Individuals WA's Daniel Fan & Alphonsus Ng were beaten in the MD semi's by the eventual winners. Australia came away with 4 of the 5 titles. More pics will be updated shortly in the Gallery |

The Board of Management of Badminton WA is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Himanshu Thacker as part-time Executive Officer of the Association. Mr Thacker, a former Indian international player, has been residing in Perth while completing his Master of Business degree- and has made an impact on the court both as a player and as a Coach. He has a broad knowledge of the sport and with his administrative skills brings another dimension to the governance structure of badminton in WA. Himanshu will be in attendance in the office Monday through Friday from 10am to 3pm. |

DEVELOPMENT OFFICER APPOINTED

The Board of Management of Badminton WA is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Nicholas Kidd as part-time State Development Officer of the Association. Mr Kidd has held the Executive Officer position for two years but is keen to move into a more proactive position to bring the sport into greater prominence in the wider community. He will be managing some specific projects, including regional development. Nick, the current Australian Singles Champion, will continue with his playing and coaching career . |
