2010 Be Active Junior Tournament

On Saturday 21st August, Kingsway was the venue for the Junior Tournament.

It was a full day long round robin format tournament and gave the opportunity for the juniors to have some fun while enjoying some competitive action on the court. There were about 35 players who entered across a combination of 4 age category/divisions and it gave a great opportunity for the Under 15 team to get some practice before heading over to the Under 15 Nationals in Shepperton next month, whilest also giving the other players an opportunity to test themselves against the selected state team players.

In the under 11's it was a straight fight between 2 pairs and it was Matthew Teo & Leonard Yau who came out on top against Gareth Evans & Adi Bambang 21-13, 21-17.

In the under 13's Tam Ho & Heer Gudka combined very well to win the division, with Edward Win & Anfernee Va coming runner-up.

In the under 15's, there was a trophy for the best Girls Doubles Team and that went to Phing Teo & Arthi Asokan. The runner's-up were Edmund Xu & Tyzton Tan, while the winners, who won all their matches, were Jazton Tan & Titus Tan.

The Under 17's was the tightest of divisions. Going into the final matches any one of 3 teams were still in the hunt for the title.

There were runner's up trophies for the Top 2 mixed doubles pairings of Matthew Huber & Krist Novakovic and Titus Tan & Olivia Fianita. The top Girls Doubles team went to Phing Teo & Silvi Botha, while the winners of the division who ended up wining all their matches, including 2 crucial 3 set matches (one of them being won 23-21 in the third!) were Julian Ng & Eugene Lee.

A big congratulations to all the players who took part and played in the tournament. And of course to the organisers and volunteers who helped out during the Saturday … these included Stephen Teo, Himanshu Thakker, Mark Duxbury, Kim Rogers & Jiten Bhatt.

We wish the WA Under 15 team all the best for the State Nationals coming up in Shepperton.
