2010 Junior Pennants - Spring Series - Week 3 of 5

The third week of the competition saw the Hamsters take on the table topping Racoons, while the Meerkats took on the Beavers.

The top of the table clash between table toppers Racoons & 2nd placed Hamsters brought about the match of the series between Julian Ng & Jackson Brennan and Owen Chan & Lim Eih Bing, which saw the Racoons pairing narrowly edge the Hamsters duo. While Julian Ng and Leonard Yau flew the flag for the Hamsters, the Racoons showed great strength in depth with strong performances from Titus Tan, Owen Chan, Edward Win, Lim Eih Bing and Connie Xu which helped the Racoons to their third straight win, taking the tie 13 matches to 7.

The other tie saw the basement clash between the Meerkats and the Beavers. Both teams took on an additional player this week to bring their numbers upto the required 8 players per team. Nicole Yau joined the Meerkats, while Scott Delamotte joined the Beavers. Ella Whyte kindly stood in as a reserve for Lynette Loo who was away this weekend. There were encouraging performances from Brendan Burns & Scott Delamotte who narrowly missed out by a few points to win a few extra games for the Beavers. Tyzton Tan and Ziao Venezianni played strongly and took a few games to give the Beavers a chance to claw away from the bottom of the log. However, the Meerkats took the majority of the games with a number of wins from Matthew Teo, Brendan Murray and Beh Ee Keat to win the tie 13 matches to 7.

Next week (Week 4) sees the Semi-Finals get under way, with the Racoons (1) taking on the Beavers (4), while the Meerkats (2) will play the Hamsters (3 for a spot in the finals).

Finally in Week 5, the final play-offs will take place to determine the final placings of the team.

Trophies will be awarded to the winning and runner up teams, while prizes / trophies will also be awarded to players who played exceptionally over the five weeks. So, good luck to all teams for next week. We look forward to another week of strong competition from all players / teams.
