Badminton WA State Team selection process

 

The following are the specific selection criteria for the WA State Teams to compete in National events listed below.

 

Final team selection will be carried out by the endorsed State Team Manager and State Team Coach.

 

Criteria is based upon current Badminton Australia Selection policy: Adopted by the BA Board - 21 January 2005, Amended by the BA Board – 31 January 2006

 

Membership

  1. Membership with Badminton WA is mandatory.

 

Event specific criteria for the following State Teams:

 

Val Nesbitt under 15

  1. Under 15 years of age at 31st December of that year,
  2. Preference given to players who competed in 3 of the following events
    1. Higgs Trophy Tournament of the previous year
    2. Be Active State School Championships or Gala Days (4 events available / year)
    3. Badminton WA State Open Championships
    4. Badminton WA Farewell Tournament of the previous year
    5. Badminton WA Welcome back Tournament of the current year

 

June Bevan Under 17

  1. Under 17 years of age at 31st December of that year
  2. Preference given to players who competed in 3 of the following events
    1. Be Active All comers Country Carnival of the previous year
    2. Be Active Gala Day Tournament (4 events available/ year)
    3. Badminton WA state Open Championships of the previous year
    4. Badminton WA Farewell Tournament of the previous year
    5. Badminton WA Welcome back Tournament of the current year
  3. A regional or club team may apply to compete based on the following by-laws:
    1. All Western Australian players may nominate to be part of a June Bevan “Badminton WA” state team based on state selection criteria.
    2. Clubs or regional associations may nominate a full team, including Team Manager and Team Coach for the June Bevan event,  sanctioned by Badminton WA as a representative team.
    3. Teams, other than the State Team, that are sanctioned by Badminton WA  will be endorsed under the name of their region, club or association for example “WA Geraldton”, WA Dwellingup” or “WA Future Stars”.
    4. Should the number of entries be limited by the organisers, being Badminton Australia, teams will compete in a playoff, ranked in order and subject to available openings be endorsed to compete, based on Badminton WA selection criteria.

 

 

CP Maddern Under 19

  1. Under 19 years of age at 31st December of that year,
  2. Preference given to players who competed in 3 of the following events
    1. Be Active All comers Country Carnival of that year
    2. Be Active Gala Day Tournament (4 events available/ year)
    3. Badminton WA state Open Championships of that year
    4. Badminton WA Farewell Tournament of the previous year
    5. Badminton WA Welcome back Tournament of that year

 

Ede Clendinnen Open Championships

  1. Preference given to players who competed in 3 of the following events
    1. Be Active All comers Country Carnival of that year
    2. Be Active Gala Day Tournament (4 events available/ year)
    3. Badminton WA state Open Championships of that year
    4. Badminton WA Farewell Tournament of the previous year
    5. Badminton WA Welcome back Tournament of that year

 

Coach and Manager specific criteria

  1. Work with Children checks and documents if team members are under 18 years of age
  2. Chaperone for mixed teams under 18 years of age

Selection process:

  1. Selection Forms below attached and available from www.badmintonwa.org.au
  2. Forms are to be submitted due at to the Badminton WA State Executive as per the Badminton WA Calendar above.
  3. Applicants will receive a letter of acknowledgement.
  4. After selection of the State Team Coach and State Team manager the team will be handled by the Team Manager.

Nominees must be registered members of the Badminton WA through an Association or Club that is affiliated to the Badminton Association.  Badminton WA will appoint the Coach and Manager for the Squad/ Team.

 


Nominees must be available to:

F     Satisfy event specific selection criteria

F     Maintain fitness levels specified by the Team Coach

F     attend training as directed by the Team manager or Team Coach

F     provide Player Profile and Player Photograph with the Nomination

Failure to comply can or will result in the player being removed from the Team.
